Passmorelab - Srereoscopic 3D for broadcast and distributionColorado based animation studio Grand Design Productions is collaborating with San Diego’s PassmoreLab to add 3D production to two of Grand Design Production’s Starfish Cove CGI animated films. Utilizing PassmoreLab’s proprietary technology, the Starfish Cove films “Never Trust a Krum” and “Da’ Codfather” will be released for the first time in stereoscopic 3D for broadcast and distribution on 3D platforms around the world. Featuring state-of-the-art CGI animation, contemporary themes, powerful music and a cast of memorable characters, Starfish Cove delivers a fun-filled, family-friendly, 3D underwater entertainment experience for audiences of all ages.

Pictorvision announces that their state-of-the-art Eclipse 3D aerial system was recently flown carrying a pair of RED ONE M-X cameras for a Deutsche Telecom (the parent company of T-Mobile) package of spots called “A Thousand Little Things.” Directed by Paul WS Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil series and the upcoming re-make of The Three Musketeers), the spots were shot in Berlin and Los Angeles by Director of Photography Vern Nobles.

Six Filmmakers to Train with Technicolor and Panasonic; Films to be Showcased on DIRECTV and at Premiere Screening Event at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles

n3d logoFurthering their commitment to the 3D category, DIRECTV and Panasonic will host the inaugural 2011 DIRECTV n3D™ Film Invitational Presented by Panasonic.

The Invitational will give six filmmakers the opportunity to train on the latest 3D equipment and create a short film that is funded by DIRECTV and Panasonic. All six films will premiere on DIRECTV's 3D channel, n3D, powered by Panasonic, and will be screened at a premiere event, which will be held at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles this summer. The winner of the Invitational's n3D Excellence Award will receive a $25,000 grand prize. In addition, Technicolor will also present a 3D Technical Achievement Award and $5,000 prize.

IMAX Corporation announced today that the epic Super Hero adventure Thor will be released in the immersive IMAX(R) 3D format this Friday, May 6. The film will open on 214 IMAX screens, simultaneous with its India release at Mumbai - Big Cinemas. Thor has grossed more than $2.3 million since its international debut on 70 IMAX screens last week.

LA 3D Movie FestivalThe Stereo Club of Southern California announced the dates for the 8th Annual Los Angeles 3-D Movie Festival, to be held on Saturday, May 14th and Sunday, May 15th, 2011, at the Downtown Independent Theater. The festival will showcase a selection of over twenty-five international 3D shorts in competition.
